Project Description

Horizon: Forbidden West is the long awaited follow up to the critically acclaimed Horizon: Zero Dawn(2017). It continues protagonist Aloy’s story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats.

I worked on Horizon 2 as both a combat and core systems designer while it was in development at Guerrilla Games in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Project Role

On combat design, I was responsible for analysing combat gameplay at a detailed, critical level in order to document and propose improvents to existing mechanics moving into the new game.

On systems design, I drove the prototyping and playtesting of new gamelay systems, in close collaboration with the technical design team. I participated in establishing the design vision/pillars for the ‘Horizon 2 experience.’

Finally, I owned the economy design for the game, gaining a deep structural understanding of the system and working this understanding into a new vision.
